Welcome to Ha'Orot-The Lights Of Rav Kook
Presented by Greg Wall's Later Prophets Featuring Rabbi Itzchak Marmorstein

"A leading figure in the Jewish music scene for over thirty years, Greg Wall is one of the pioneers in blending Jewish music with jazz. His newest recording with his powerful ensemble Later Prophets is a colorful and provocative mixture of jazz and Jewish poetry and features the spiritual writings of Rabbi Avraham Itzchak HaCohen Kook, recently voted the most influential person in the shaping of modern Israel. Kook was a unique blend of the traditional and modern- and the music follows suit, with funky grooves, improvisations and even a few of Kook's own compositions.
With texts read by one of the greatest living scholars of Kook and his milieu, this is an important document of Jewish mysticism."
John Zorn. Tzaddik Records

Personnel:
Rabbi Itzchak Marmorstein -spoken word
Rabbi Greg Wall- tenor and soprano saxophones, clarinet, shofar, moseno
Shai Bachar- piano
Dave Richards-bass
Aaron Alexander-drums

The CD includes 12 poems in a combination of Hebrew and English and 2 nigunim-melodies composed by Rav Kook.

Rabbi Avraham Itzchak haCohen Kook, TZ’L, wrote:

“Let everyone express in truth and in faithfulness whatever their soul reveals to them. Let us bring forth our spiritual creativity from potentiality to actuality without any deception. Out of such sparks torches of light will be assembled and illuminate the whole world…
Out of our fragments of inner truth, will the great truth emerge.” (Lights of Holiness, 1:168)

In response to a few requests from a number of people interested in learning what Rav Kook’s soul revealed to him, we have begun a Rav Kook Chabura/Learning Circle.

We are reading/discussing from his original notebooks in Hebrew on topics of interest to the participants.

These 8 Kvatzim/Notebooks were written between 1904-1919 and contain extraordinarily evolved teachings on every possible subject; truly a Torah of Light.

Complete translation are offered and the discussion is in English and Hebrew.

The learning should improve the participant’s grasp of Hebrew. Rav Kook is considered by many to be the primary creator of new Hebrew. Ben Yehuda consulted with him may times.

When

Every Tuesday nights at 8 – 10 PM

Where

Rechov Mishmar HaAm 6, Jerusalem(where Rachel Imenu, Lamed Heh and Mishmar Ha’Am meet-block from Yakar)

At 7:30- 7:55, for those interested we begin with an introduction to Ophanim practice session.

Ophanim is a ‘Kabbalistic Yoga’ based on Sefer Yetzira that I had the privilege of being taught and trained to teach. It’s based on the Otiot/Letters and is a very powerful yet simple posture, movement, meditation and visualization practice. Good for the body, mind and soul.

There is no charge; donations are accepted.

If you know anyone who may be interested in learning Rav Kook and/or Ophanim in this sort of setting, please feel free to invite them

For more information or questions, please email haorot AT gmail.com or milayomit AT gmail.com or phone 054 819 2391.
Please RSVP
